- Frequency:
- Administer once to twice daily (usually two times a day).
- Duration:
- 5–7 days for most conditions (this may vary based on the infection type and the veterinarian’s advice).
Special Instructions:
- Avoid in certain animals: Metronidazole should not be used in animals with liver disease or neurological disorders, as it can worsen these conditions.
- Monitor for side effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Prolonged use may cause neurological symptoms (e.g., tremors, seizures), so monitor animals closely.
- Administer with food: To reduce gastrointestinal irritation, it’s recommended to administer with food.
- Do not exceed prescribed duration: Prolonged use can lead to resistance or more serious side effects.
